Study Groups Proposed To Prolong Nantah Spirit and Re-establish Nanyang University

On behalf of Nanyang University Alumni Association of Canada, I would like to congratulate the preparatory committee of the Nanyang University Alumni Association of Indonesia for having successfully convened this global reunion of alumni from all around the world．

We, the Canadian alumni want to thank the committee for inviting us. Although many of us could not come because we live thousands of miles away, we share all the good intentions and spirit with which the Indonesian alumni have gone about their work of organizing this reunion, and with which all of us, from far and near, are assembled here today.

Every year, the host alumni association that sponsors the global reunion braves all kinds of difficulty and obstacles to provide an opportunity for friendship among alumni, and an opportunity for alumni to realize their potential for voluntary work that will benefit others. These annual activities promote the spirit of Nantah in allowing alumni to liaise with one another to show their solicitousness and friendship. This is what our alma mater had provided us spiritually. This is a part of the results of our education, our nurturing at Nantah. It is praiseworthy that we show the results of our education with practical actions every year.

At the first global reunion of Nanyang University alumni two years ago, our teacher, Han Suyin, and a number of alumni spoke enthusiastical1y about re-establishing Nanyang University. After the reunion of 1992, the Canadian Alumni Association sent out letters to touch base with alumni associations around the world, and reached a consensus that the Association of Nanyang University Graduates in Singapore would liaise with alumni on a global scale. Subsequently it was hoped that alumni associations in various parts of the world will continue to stay in touch. It is hoped that this assembly will be able to form a study group in order to study and take action as to how to prolong the spirit of Nantah, and how to re-establish Nanyang University.

On this rare occasion, in this august assembly, let us all wish this reunion success, as succeed it must, and succeed it will!
